On July 20, 2024, Wisehub and the Haina Academy Corporate Compliance Center successfully co-hosted an academic lecture titled "The Advent of the Era of Large AI Models and Legal Responses" at the Haina Industrial Haizhu Technology Park in Shanghai. The event featured Professor Zheng Ge from the Koguan Law School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University as the keynote speaker, attracting numerous elites from academia and industry.
Professor Zheng Ge, Director of the Planning Committee and Researcher at the China Law and Society Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as well as a member of the University's Ethics Committee for Human-Related Scientific Research, delivered an in-depth exploration of the profound impact of generative artificial intelligence on human creativity and the legal system. Professor Zheng highlighted that the development of AI not only presents technological challenges but also sparks profound discussions on responsibility, fairness, and ethics.
During the lecture, Professor Zheng emphasized the division of labor between humans and machines. He argued that many issues are not caused by machines themselves but by the ways and systems through which humans use them. He illustrated the application of technology in the legal field, pointing out the advantages of generative AI in text processing, which could potentially automate the entire case review process. However, determining which tasks should be left to humans is more about responsibility than capability.
Professor Zheng also noted that the current greatest threat posed by AI is not the potential future enslavement of humans but the immediate impact on human life and work. He used the example of gene-editing technology to raise questions about fairness in therapeutic versus enhancement applications. Additionally, Professor Zheng pointed out that AI lacks global knowledge and cannot adjust its behavior based on environmental changes, whereas human intuition and physical functions are the results of billions of years of evolution, something machines cannot replicate.
The event also featured Professor Huang Yue, founder of Wisehub and a Yale Law School doctoral graduate, as a guest speaker. Professor Huang, along with Dr. Wang Xuan, Director of the Guangzhou University Center for Innovation and Law, Professor Zhu Junqiang from the Guangzhou University Law School, and Mr. Song Xiaoliang, General Manager of Haina Industrial, participated in the discussion, sharing their insights on the intersection of AI and law.
This lecture not only provided attendees with cutting-edge academic perspectives but also offered new ideas for the future integration of AI and legal development. Wisehub remains committed to promoting the convergence of technological innovation and legal research, bringing more valuable discussions and solutions to society.
